Beginning Argentine Tango-
Milonguero Style- Take your first steps in to the world of Argentine tango.
In this class you will learn to develop a connection with your partner and
explore the tango embrace. Among the topics we'll cover are the technique
of movement, posture, connecting with your partner, the music, open embrace,
milonguero style close embrace, elements of walking, rock turn to the left, rock
turn to the right, and other beginner elements. For a full breakdown of
the beginner syllabus (which is covered over a period of 2 months), see the
Introduction to Tango
page of the website. No partner necessary. No experience required. Partner
rotation mandatory.
Who should take this class? If you have no previous
dance experience, or if you have no previous experience with Milonguero style
dancing, this is where you want to start. Even if you have learned another style
of tango, we may be covering topics you might not have seen and will need for
the Intermediate classes. Please contact us if you are unsure where to begin.
Intermediate Tango*
continues from the Beginning Argentine Tango series. We will continue to refine
your study of body movement, technique and continue to explore the possibilities
of the embrace.
Some of the intermediate concepts include: more advanced Milonguero style
movements like the ocho cortado and it's variations, paradas, ochos, variations on ochos, giros, dancing in same foot
(cross) system, sacadas, crusadas, crusada varaitions and transferring your
vocabulary to the other two dances in the Argentine Tango family- Milonga and
Vals. We will continue to emphasize improvisation & musicality of the dance to traditional tango, nuevo
tango & alternative music. No partner necessary. Partner rotation mandatory.
*Intermediate Tango is non-sequential, you just need
to be comfortable with the elements we cover in the Beginner series before
joining, which generally takes about 2 months for many people.
